Design
Sunken Citadel takes place in the ruins of a city-commanding fortress that has sunken deep under the sea. Since the location is under the sea, many sea decors can be seen like corals, seaweed, and sand dollars. The map has an overall blue-ish color scheme, giving the map a serene and majestic feel. Most of the platforms used are remnants of the citadel, and giant jellyfish that can be seen at the beginning of the map. Throughout the map, air bubbles can be seen floating up to the surface. At the end zone is a pile of treasure on top of a giant pillar.
Trivia
Sunken Citadel was one of many maps to have been posted on the Crazyblox Games Forums before being added to the game.
The last area was completely revamped before being added to FE2.
This map is a remake of a map called 'Sunken Temple' also made by AnimalGamerTest. He made Sunken Citadel because Sunken Temple was deleted and he promised to make a remake of it.
The map was added to the game on December 1st, 2020. It is also the first community map to be added since Blue Moon in July 2019.
On January 26, 2021, the map was updated, the color scheme was slightly changed, slightly remodeled all rooms, slowed the lava pace in the final room and more.
With the new update, the map has a flood controlling mechanism, making this the second map to have the ability to control the flood. The other maps that share the same characteristic are Beneath the Ruins, Magmatic Mines, Decaying Silo, and Snowy Stronghold.
This map formerly used the Side B version of the Decrepit Seas OST, composed by Manel Navola. On January 26, 2021, the map was revamped, and finally got its own soundtrack (an extended version of the Side B).
It very briefly used Infiltration's OST in FE2 Map Test.
The 2nd button used to have a different position but was changed before being added to FE2. It was changed again when Sunken Citadel got revamped and is now a Group Button.
This was the second map in the game to be based on the sea/ocean theme. The first being Decrepit Seas and the third being Buried Oasis.
Some people even say that this map and Decrepit Seas are connected because of their many similarities.
This is one of the many Hard Maps to have its flood start off with lava. The other maps are Lava Tower, Dark Sci-Forest, Graveyard Cliffside, Sedimentary Temple, Fallen (Classic), Relic Valley, Poisonous Forest, and Toxic Woods.
Sunken Citadel was in FE2 Community Maps Legacy for around a whole year before being added to Flood Escape 2.
Before being unavailable, the revamped version of Sunken Citadel used different music in FE2CM.
Before FE2CM Legacy was shut down, the ID of Sunken Citadel instead loads a map called "Moonlight Falls" by EpicRusta.
Another ID of Sunken Citadel also loads a map "Swampland Settlement".
Many players call this "the lag map" because of how much it hits the performance of some players.
There is a secret room in this map and it's located above the truss in the final room. Inside, is the FE1 Guide sleeping in the corner and there's a map that has the pictures of Beneath The Ruins, Poisonous Valley, Buried Oasis and Sunken Citadel. You can see a video of it here.
There was also a troll face in the ceiling of the spawn room however it was removed.
There was one of Baljeet in the ceiling of the spawn room yet it was removed.
In the Agility Update, the map got slightly buffed. You must now slide under the rusty gate after pressing the 2nd button and in another gate on your way to the 3rd button.
Then you must use the Wall Jump after pressing the 6th Button and then again when reaching the 7th Button.
Some of the corals in 1st area of the map is collidable, meaning that players can climb onto it. Because of this, players can reach the top of the map completely safe from the lava.
As of the Halloween 2022 Update along with the rest of the Hard Maps, Sunken Citadel has a Skin.
If a Rescue Mission is activated on this map, the escapee will be located underwater in the fifth button's room.
During a Lost Page Map Event, the Lost Page will be found on the left waterfalls in the 1st button's room. To go up there, there's a truss near the button.
The Lost Page's route can also be used to skip the parkour after pressing the first button.
