Design
The map takes place on a set of floating islands, with a rising sea of acid below. All of the islands are covered with lush grass, some of which have blue structures, trees, and foliage. Some of the islands are connected with blue bridges. The map is also decorated with boxes, ladders, and wooden platforms. Towards the end of the map, there is a broken wooden bridge with several wooden planks remaining.
Trivia
Sky Sanctuary is usually considered by many players to be one of the harder Normal maps due to the thin platforms present throughout the map and the dangerous acid below.
Like many other maps, No Buttons Challenge was possible in this map before it was patched.
The map used to have a unique glitch where players can press buttons despite skipping the previous ones. This could result in a <35-second completion of this map, making it one of the fastest maps to complete. An example of this glitch was by skipping the first button by jumping around the gate.
Apart from the color, the gate after the 1st button is identical to the one in Snowy Peaks.
This map shared the same ID with Decrepit Seas, Snowy Peaks, Wild Savannah, Gloomy Manor, Lost Desert and Omitted Temple in FE2 Community Maps Legacy.
This map shares the same name with a stage in Sonic & Knuckles. Both of them also follow a similar theme.
Because of the map being open, you can see the edges of the acid flood without requiring to glitch through walls.
When you press the 2nd button, the bridge leading to the next button will collapse. This could end up in players being flung around. This was fixed in the Magmatic Mines update, where the unanchored platforms become CanCollide = False.
If the map's OST is synced with Wild Savannah, this is the outcome.
This is likely due to both OSTs being made by the same composer, BSlick.
Sky Sanctuary is the first map to be sky-themed, this is followed by Fallen and Fallen (Classic).
If a Rescue Mission is activated on this map, the escapee will be located below the starting platform.
During a Lost Page Map Event, the Lost Page will be found below the last button.
Sky Sanctuary is the only map with the abbreviation "SS" that is not an Insane Map. The other maps are Sinking Ship and Satomi Springs.
Snowy Stronghold technically falls into this category, but is commonly abbreviated to "SSH".
