The map takes place in the ruined and abandoned Flood Escape: Classic Lobby. The first two rooms follow a similar building style to the Flood Escape: Classic maps. After pressing the 3 buttons in the 2nd room, the player will climb out of the broken Medium Lift inside the dilapidated Lobby building. The building has large holes in floor, revealing the lava flooding the basement. Outside the lobby, fire can be seen and even the waterfall turned into lava. The exit region is the door of the Code Breaker Room.
Trivia
Unlike many of the other maps, Familiar Ruins' map uses two different textures for the lava. The Granite texture is used in the spawn area while Magma is used for the rest of the map. This also occurs in Gloomy Manor.
The original name of the map was "DEJA VU," as seen in this clip. This was most likely because of Familiar Ruins being heavily based off of the Flood Escape: Classic map.
This map, along with Beneath The Ruins, may have been the inspiration for the many FE:C and FE2 ruins maps in FE2 Community Maps.
In the first room, the lava used to rise very quickly. So, if a player failed to get the button, the whole group would most likely die. After an update, the lava's speed was heavily nerfed.
Crazyblox tweeted a photo of when he was making this map in a live stream on April 10, 2017.
A noticeable update to this map was released on January 18, 2018. This update included the minor visual changes to the outside area, and gameplay changes related to a troll in the outside area and the first room's lava.
Originally, there was a bug where the player would die as soon as they spawned inside the map. This was soon fixed in a later update.
There was a box below the 5th button which was used as shortcut to press the button faster. But in an update, the box was moved into a hole filled with lava nearby. However, you can still jump on a thin ledge in a similar spot.
The OST of this map is a remix of the Lobby's OST.
The lava in the lobby area flashes once the acid in the second room has turned to lava.
Despite this, only the acid's texture got changed to the lava's texture, not the liquid itself.
A picture of this map can be seen in the first room of No Light, a discontinued Crazy Map by Crazyblox.
In the Agility Update, this map was slightly buffed. In the door directly before the medium shaft, a barrier which requires you to slide was put in the area. After pressing the final button in the outside area, a zipline had been added for players to get back onto the main path.
Due to this, players were then able to do the "No Buttons Challenge" through the use of corner clipping and shortcuts. This was later patched, as Roblox had patched corner clipping as a whole.
Familiar Ruins is one of 4 Insane Map not to contain any wall jumps. The other 3 are Lost Desert, Gloomy Manor, and Sinking Ship.
This is one of the many Insane maps to have its flood start off with lava. The other maps are Gloomy Manor, Dark Sci-Facility, Beneath The Ruins, Magmatic Mines, Fallen, and Satomi Springs.
If a Rescue Mission is activated on this map, the escape will be located on the hard lift in the lobby.
Neither of the two rooms in the map that proceed to the main lobby in the map exist as actual rooms in the Flood Escape: Classic.
A lot of people think this map isn’t worthy of Insane difficulty, due to its low difficulty and its short length.
